Christmas customs and traditions in our countries
Talking about Christmas customs and traditions was another activity organized within the project. The students prepared materials connected with Christmas celebration in their countries. First, they did some research and then they presented the obtained information in form of a short video or a picture presentation. They also created Christmas greeting cards by the means of canva.com and recorded New Year’s wishes for their project partners. All the outcomes of their work were published on Twinspace. Students tried to gather as much information about Christmas customs and traditions as possible in order to present it to their partners. The aim of this activity was also to find out about customs and traditions which are less common these days and are slowly becoming a thing of the past. Students made a list of traditions with their descriptions and corresponding photos. A short film was made from all the gathered materials which was presented to our partners. Thanks to this activity, students united in their efforts to find information. It also enabled us to have a closer look at our national and regional traditions and to find things we have in common. It also made us aware that despite cultural and national differences between project partners, there are things which unite us, like for example some of Christmas and New Year traditions. The tasks carried out in this activity integrate well with the school normal activity, as Christmas time is a very important period in our school. Each year, school organises different activities connected with Christmas traditions, one of them being a singing contest for the best carol. Christmas class meetings are organised during which students exchange small gifts and express their good wishes. In the current Covid situation, when we have only online lessons, all the gathered and created materials (photos, videos, Christmas cards) were a nice reminder and a substitute of typical Christmas celebrations in our school. Thanks to them, despite the distance, everyone involved could feel the spirit and magic of Christmas.
